William J. Kalmes, Sr. died on April 15, 2022 at home in Allentown, New Jersey. He was 84 years old. Bill was born on November 28, 1937 in Riverside, New Jersey to parents, Gertrude and William L. Kalmes. He was a gifted athlete and played in the Minor Leagues for the Los Angeles Dodgers for six years. Bill was a Union Carpenter Foreman who took pride in his work. Bill’s athleticism and fun competitive nature led him to pursue many sports including, skiing, motorcycling, bowling, golf, hunting and fishing. Bill’s gentle nature inspired him to observe and appreciate wildlife that he fed daily on his property. He was known as a passionate fun-loving guy who enjoyed spending time with friends both skiing and having horseshoe competitions. Bill was a loving husband to Jonni, the proud father of five children: Dawn M. Ghegan (Chuck), William J. Kalmes, Jr., Wendy J. Van Horn (Jeffery), David M. Kalmes (Donna) Cynthia P. Kalmes (John) and caring stepfather of Aly DiNello (Ryan). He was a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren, one step-grandchild and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Connie Townsend of Riverside, New Jersey and Karen Senior of Delran, New Jersey and several nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, from 9am – 11am at the Chadwick Memorial Home, 154 Webster Street, Riverside, New Jersey followed by Bill’s memorial service at 11. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Wildlife Federation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
